My group and I produced a powerpoint presentation on the stereotypical fans of mgmt. We did this to get a more information about the target audience making it easier to create posters, videos and digipaks that would appeal to them.

I drew out some flat plans for my MGMT digipak .

Idea 1: The front cover to this idea comes from our opening shot of the video. A sunset with the main characters sitting around on a beach. The inside of the digi pac has an the final image of the video which is of them all lieing down on the same beach with the sun rising. The back of the Digi pac is a wine bottle which helps gives the vibe of the video.

Idea 2:
I am going to use this idea for my video. It has a boy sitting on the ruins in the background and a monitor in the grass in the foreground. The lighting and contrast is what is going to be the main focus of the cover The font is very "new wave" and the inside of the digi pac has a monitor on it with make shift bomb written on it, these are lyrics to the song we are making a video for. The inner back has an image of the toxic waste sign converted into a flower and the back has a blacked out figure sitting on the ruins. This would give the same atmosphere as the video and would give a brief idea of what the video is like.

Idea 3:
The front cover of idea 3 has a wine bottle in some grass next to a lighter because this is these objects are connected to the main theme of the video. Inside there are the lyrics "was i?" and "kill my lunch" for the fans of the song. The back is also a lighter next to a pack of cigerettes for the same reason as the front.

All the digi pac front covers are lit with blue lighting.

A Digipak is a patented style of compact disk or DVD packaging. We have to make the Digipak appeal to MGMT's target audience who are people from the age of 15-21 who like new aged, abstract music and see themselves as apart of the new culture.

Abstract and quite violent are the best words to use when describing MGMT's digipac to their song "time to pretend". It shows two monsters eating the world who apear to be attached by a wire to other monsters with SNES controllers on them. In this nightmarish image they have added musical instruments such as a Keyboard and an acoustic guitar.

After studying this picture for some time more objects become apparent, for example there are buildings in the bottom right and bottom left of the picture with a flying heart in the middle, there are also random objects in the chaos such as an angel and trees which dont come aparent at first glance. If we want to copy MGMT's style of covers we have to make the cover of the Digipak with an abstract style.

The Arctic Monkeys are bands who attract the same kind of audience as MGMT. Their front cover to the Digipak is a contrast of bright colours inside the house and dark colours outside the house. The composition of this photography follows the line of perspective wall. the roof tops follows this rule, as you can see it is neatly going across the sky. The sky itself being dark is another strange addition to this front cover. Inside the house there are lots of bright shapes on a white background which makes them seem brighter which catchs your eyes.

The font style is quite funky and looks like it belongs in the 60s, it is a dark yellow colour so it is not the centre of attention. Like the other Arctic Monkeys album art they do not strike immediate attention, they say there music is the most important part of the album however the simplicity of there covers almost makes them seem more complex.

We chose the song Weekend wars by MGMT to film a video for. We chose this song because it gives us a chance to experiment with different effects such as animation and time lapsing because of the sureal nature of the song. The video can be very abstract and suit the song.

The songs lyrics are very different with a lot of every day objects described in a different light, for example "twisted metal car". The lyrics open up a huge range of possibilities of what we can base the video around.

This video starts of with a group of fairy tale likd creatures and a few normal people in a jungle. In this video they cut open the moon and cover themselves in the glowing liquid inside of it, the video ends with the moon exploding into two motorbikes and everybody dancing. The use of lighting and colour in this video has a big impact. The surrealness of the video works very well with the song.

This video is completely random with no story line from what i can gather (apart from him shooting a giant spider with a mouth with a bow and arrow) the video completely relies on effects and the use of colour. It gives the impression that the band members are the stereotype "hippy's".

these to videos we have a wide range of choices of what we can do with our video as long as it is quite artistic and strange. Since the other videos to this Artist are very bewildering we will follow the same path. These videos have influenced me to add different colour and effects to the video.

What role will i play
Our group has decided to take a joint directing role and take it turns filming, by doing this we can get a wider range of different ideas and theoretically make the sort of video we all agree on.

Ideas so far
Our ideas so far are quite vague but we have decided on the general story for the video. After watching some MGMT videos and discussed our options we have decided our best plan is to make a very abstract video involving a beach and a field landscape, a group of people (three or four) and drugs and alcohol. By doing this we can add a lot of colour and use a lot of effects and generally have no limits to the story line. We have decided to use animation for the chorus. We want to use other effects as well such as time lapses during the opening scene and exaggerating colour. We also want to use glow in the dark paint, strobe lights and filters to add to the general theme of the song.
